The Effect of Aluminum on the Two-Stage Peroxide Bleaching of Eucalyptus Regnans Stone Groundwood Pulp

چکیده

The addition of aluminum nitrate (up to 100 ppm A1 on pulp) to a two-stage, acidalkali, hydrogen peroxide bleach of Eucalyptus regnans stone groundwood pulp enhanced the brightness gain of the pulp, over a range of consistencies. It is proposed that the presence of aluminum ions modifies the catalytic behaviour of the transition metal ions present in the pulp, especially manganese, reducing peroxide consumption while increasing the brightness of the pulp. The two-stage process, under optimized conditions at low consistency, consumes considerably less peroxide while achieving a greater brightness increase than a singlestage alkaline peroxide bleach.

Influence of Fungal Enzyme Pre-treatment on Totally Chlorine-free (TCF) Bleaching of Dimethyl Formamid Bagasse Pulp

A study was carried out on totally chlorine-free (TCF) bleachability of dimethyl formamide (DMF) treated bagasse pulps exposed to CZ-3 and FP 90031-sp strains of white-rot fungus Ceriporiopsis subvermispora. This process involved an oxygen and peroxide stage bleaching sequence. The effect of enzymatic stage on bleachability properties was studied and compared with control pulps, processed witho...

ECF BLEACHING WITH A FINAL HYDROGEN PEROXIDE STAGE: IMPACT ON THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF Eucalyptus globulus KRAFT PULPS

Two industrial elemental chlorine free (ECF) bleaching sequences, D0(EOP)D1(EP)D2 and OQ(PO)DP, are compared with respect to the bulk content of lignin, carboxyl, hexeneuronic acids (HexA), and reducing groups after each bleaching stage. HexA groups contribute significantly to the total content of carboxyl groups, and their degradation during chlorine dioxide bleaching is reflected by a decreas...

CHARACTERIZATION OF Eucalyptus grandis KRAFT PULPS TREATED WITH PHOSPHONATES IN DIFFERENT STAGES OF TCF BLEACHING

The addition of a phosphonated chelant (DTPMPA) at different points of a TCF bleaching sequence and its effect on pulp properties were studied in this work. An industrial Eucalyptus grandis kraft pulp was submitted to a counter-ion exchange (Ca or Na form) and was then bleached using DTPMPA in the washing or in the bleaching stages of two distinct sequences: OOpP and OQOpP (20 pulps). The count...
